7 Reasons Why CBD Is Not Working For You

cbd not working

Several people have told you how CBD changed their lives. Some call it “nature’s Xanax.” Having read several articles about how CBD can help reduce inflammation, reduce anxiety, and even boost workouts, you know how effective CBD is. It sounded so interesting, so you decided to give it a shot. Alas! Nothing happened.

If you have not seen any results with Cannabidiol (CBD), you may want to look into the reason.

In recent years, CBD has become increasingly popular as a non-psychoactive component of cannabis. CBD is often used to treat nerve pain, anxiety, inflammation, insomnia, and sore muscles.

The use of CBD is reported to have positive results for the treatment of medical conditions such as chronic pain, so why aren’t you seeing improvements?

We’ll dive right in.

7 Reasons Why CBD Is Not Working For You

The cannabis plant produces both CBD and THC, which are cannabinoids. The compound CBD is not psychoactive, unlike Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

The therapeutic effects of CBD have been found to be beneficial for many users. However, you have tried CBD without any success despite the hype.

You will start to see CBD’s positive health effects within a short period of time depending on several factors. Your body’s metabolism and the quality of the product determine these factors.

In order for CBD to work, it must reach the endocannabinoid system. Cannabinoids are also produced by the body which acts through this system.

It is still unclear exactly how the endocannabinoid system operates and what its function is.

You may wish to consider these points in order to understand why you are not experiencing the desired results from CBD use and how you can adjust it.

1. Your Product Is Low-Quality

CBD’s effectiveness is influenced by its quality. In a study, only a small percentage of sold CBD products actually contain the quoted concentrations of CBD.

That could be a huge mistake since you could be taking far less supplement than you need to.

Choosing the right CBD product for you can be challenging with hundreds of CBD brands on the market. The problem is further compounded by choosing a brand of optimal quality.

Fillers may be present in some brands of poor quality, which practically serve no purpose to you.

Choosing products that have been independently tested is one way to make sure you are getting CBD of the highest quality.

Tests conducted by independent laboratories are helpful for making sure the CBD you buy is of high quality. When in doubt, request lab results from shady sellers online.

Additionally, you need to read the customer reviews to ensure that the CBD you get is of high quality. It is more likely that you will have a positive experience with the product if more people have had a positive experience.

Your results could also be affected by the kind of CBD you are taking. CBD can be full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, or isolated.

2. The wrong dose is being taken

Each individual has a different ideal dosage for CBD. It is therefore wise to experiment with CBD dosages until you find an appropriate balance for you.

In addition to your age, weight, gender, lifestyle, general health, and the condition you are trying to treat, there are other factors that determine the outcome. You might have to experiment with CBD doses before finding your ideal one. If your current dosage doesn’t seem to be working, consider increasing your dosage in a week’s time. You should find your sweet spot by increasing your dosage weekly.

CBD at 10mg per day may not have any effect, but at 20mg per day, it may do something. Depending on your pain level, start with 1-6 mg per 10 pounds of body weight. In comparison to mild discomfort, you will require far more medication if your pain is severe.

We have put together a quick table that lists rough estimates based on pain level and weight.

WeightMildMediumSevere
0 - 50 kg5 - 20 mg12 - 49 mg30 - 60 mg
51 - 70 kg10 - 30 mg21 - 74 mg50 - 90 mg
71 - 90 kg15 - 40 mg35 - 99 mg75 - 120 mg
91 - 120 kg20 - 50 mg41 - 124 mg105 - 150 mg

It is evident that the range is extensive. Work your way up starting at the bottom.

In order to determine your daily CBD dosage, it is imperative to understand the potency of the CBD product in question.

For example, a common option for labeling CBD oils in Europe is the use of percentages – 5%, 10%, 15%, etc. in bottles of 10 ml. Depending on the carrier oil, a 5% CBD oil should contain about 460 – 480 mg of CBD extract.

CBD oil bottles usually have a 1 ml dropper.

Using too little or too much CBD is all too easy if you miscalculate your dosage.

To save you the heavy calculations, the conversion of the percentages and counting the drops, on each of our bottles, you will find a graph that shows the ratio between ml and mg, in order to know exactly how many milligrams of CBD extract you are about to take.

3. Perhaps you need more time

CBD may have an immediate effect on some people.

If you don’t belong to such a group, it’s okay, but you might need to be patient.

For CBD to work, it must link up with your endocannabinoid system’s receptors. The CBD oil might not have had enough time to work on your natural regulatory system, your endocannabinoid system.

On the other hand, some people might not have the endocannabinoid system activated enough to produce the effects right away.

Because there is so much buzz about CBD oil, first-timers typically expect to feel something after their first use.  A lot of first-time CBD users expect a buzz when they use the oil.

First of all, CBD cannot give you a buzz. Due to the fact that CBD does not have psychoactive properties, it will not make you high.

The second issue is perhaps that you might need to be committed to its use in order for CBD to work. It takes a couple of months to build an effective relationship with your CBD oil and activate your endocannabinoid system so that you can see results.

Activating your endocannabinoid system from within may also require you to use CBD oil along with topical CBD products.

There is still time to keep trying if you don’t see any results after a few months. If you aren’t satisfied with the current product, consider switching.

You should keep a journal as you go through the CBD process. Be sure to keep a record of the different products you have tried and the results they have produced.

4. The delivery method may need a change

CBD products are widely available on the market. When it comes to infused CBD, you can pretty much do anything you want.

Products with CBD are available in the following forms:

  • Oils
  • Tinctures
  • Vape oils
  • Creams
  • Capsules
  • Edibles such as gummies

What is your preferred method for consuming CBD?

Don’t give up if one doesn’t work. You can always try another.

Depending on the bioavailability, you might get a different level of effect from CBD. You may lose some CBD when you take edible CBD types of products like gummies in the process of digestion and metabolism in the liver.

Alternatively, tinctures applied under the tongue will reach a greater proportion of the bloodstream. As a result, CBD used this way is more likely to have a greater impact on you.

If you wish to improve a condition, delivery will also be important. You can relieve muscle pain after exercising by applying topical CBD creams. The best option for treating anxiety, though, may not be topical CBD creams.

5. It may not be for everyone

There is no guarantee that CBD will work for everyone, no matter how popular it may be. There is a possibility that CBD might not be effective for you despite all your efforts.

There are many factors that influence your ability to absorb and react to CBD.

  • metabolism
  • biochemistry
  • genetics

Every individual’s endocannabinoid system interacts differently with active compounds in cannabis.

Psychiatrists have found that 20 percent of American adults may have a genetic mutation that causes their bodies to naturally produce endocannabinoids, which are similar to cannabis but created in the body.

As a result, people with this mutation might show a decrease in anxiety symptoms, but because there are so many endocannabinoids in the body you might not notice much difference when using CBD.

You do not have to take CBD if your friends insist you try it. One size does not fit all when it comes to treatment!

6. CBD cannot change a bad lifestyle.

An essential part of CBD’s purpose is to supplement a healthy diet and lifestyle by building on top of it.

Some people find CBD beneficial, but it isn’t a cure-all. Body balance is important, but it cannot compensate for unbalanced diets, lack of exercise, poor sleep, emotional problems, and disconnection from social and community support. Putting together all the puzzle pieces will help you reap the CBD benefits and maintain true wellness.

7. You Have Inadvertently Developed a Tolerance

When you feel that marijuana isn’t providing the same positive effects as it once did, you may decide to take a tolerance break (T-break). Cannabis users reap its benefits once again after briefly abstaining. CBD also may require tolerance breaks if constant use does not seem to help. CBD can cause tolerance, although you would have to consume a great deal to get there.

As reported by Shimrit Uliel-Sibony in a December 2018 study, 92 individuals had ‘treatment-resistant epilepsy’. Cannabidiol was administered in highly concentrated doses to all of the patients being treated with CBD. In almost one-third of the patients, researchers found a tolerance to CBD.

Tolerance to CBD is possible, but it’s rare.

The reports of this study provide little hope for those who are taking CBD for epilepsy on a long-term basis, but there is some hope in their findings. It was administered in a dose and timeframe that are several times greater than what most people would practice. In addition, each study participant took an average of seven months to reach tolerance. Additionally, the daily dosage averaged 12.6mg per kg.

To put these numbers in perspective, a 154-pound person would have to consume 882mg of CBD daily if they were to build up this level of tolerance.

CBD may not work for you for a number of reasons, but the risk of developing a tolerance is the least probable one. Nevertheless, if you are, like most ordinary consumers, taking 30mg to 120mg of CBD per day and you notice that your tolerance is increasing, you should try ceasing to use CBD for a week or two and paying attention to how you feel.

Are you already feeling great? CBD May Not Help

CBD may not help you much if your physical and psychological conditions are good. Based on our understanding of the cannabinoid, it works best when the endocannabinoids are deficient. Do you take aspirin if you don’t have a headache? Ibuprofen if you’re not inflamed?

People suffering from conditions like fibromyalgia need cannabinoids desperately. Accordingly, CBD could alleviate some of the pain. As a result of CBD’s use medicinally, you experience numerous chemical reactions in your body that restore your body to a state of balance. CBD won’t provide you with much of a boost if your body is already in this state.

Mental health is no different. A chemical imbalance in the brain is associated with depression, PTSD, anxiety, or a similar issue. You may feel better after using CBD, since it has the potential to restore chemical balance. Would you take antidepressants if you didn’t suffer from depression and already felt good?
