CBD Dosage

CBD interacts with the body and the brain via 60 different molecular pathways, implying a complex relationship between the body and the brain. Therefore, it’s challenging to develop a definite dosage guideline that would benefit everyone, regardless of physiology.

Even the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) does not have a Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) for CBD. In simpler words, CBD does not have a standard serving size.

The amount of CBD you take daily is personal to you. The dose is frequently determined by your weight and the strength of the effect you want to feel from your  CBD oil. Our dosage calculator allows you to determine what dose of CBD is appropriate to begin with and how to increase this dose gradually.

This calculator is only for informational purposes. If you have a health condition or are taking medications, always seek medical advice. Individual outcomes vary. The EFSA recommends a maximum daily CBD dose of 70mg.

How much CBD should I take?

The most common CBD dose ranges between 20 mg to 40 mg per dose. Some people take much less (as little as 5 mg), while others take more (up to 100 mg).

The truth is that the ideal CBD dosage is individual and varies from person to person. It’s not uncommon for two people of the same weight to react very differently to the same dose of CBD. For example, one person may find that 50 mg of CBD is the best dose, while another responds much better to just 10 mg.

Your optimal CBD dose is determined by several factors, including your weight, the severity of the condition you’re treating, your metabolism and liver function, any tolerance to cannabinoids, your body chemistry, the strength of the CBD oil, or other CBD products you’re using.
The best way to find the right CBD dose that will work for you is to begin with a low dose and step-by-step increase it over the time. Check out our calculator to get an idea of what dosage you should be taking if you have never tried CBD before.
Start with the recommended dosage in “mild.” strength and continue with it for at least a week since your body needs several days to adjust to your daily dose and the CBD extract. If you aren’t seeing the results you want after the first week, gradually increase the amount of CBD oil you’re taking. Increase your dose every 3-4 days and add 5 mg each time until you see positive results. It’s a good idea to do journaling and keep track of your progress to find your ideal dosage.
Reduce your dose if you feel that it’s too high for you and are experiencing heightened alertness, anxiety, nausea, and headaches.
Always keep in mind that the EFSA recommends a total daily CBD dose of no more than 70mg. The maximum daily dosage includes any additional products, so please make sure you never go over this limit.

How should CBD oil be taken?

If you’re new to CBD, it’s critical to understand how to use CBD oil. The most effective way to take our CBD is sublingual, which means under your tongue. Here are four simple steps:

  1. Fill the dropper halfway with your desired CBD oil dosage
  2.  Squeeze it under the tongue
  3. Wait for 30 to 60 seconds
  4. Swallow
Allow it to sit under your tongue for up to 60 seconds before distributing the remaining oil to your inner cheeks with your tongue. This method promotes maximum absorption and allows the supplement to enter your bloodstream more quickly.

Tip 1: For the best results, take CBD after a meal. According to one study, dosing 30 minutes after a fatty meal (good neahtly fats) increases CBD absorption by 5x. This will either increase the strength of the effect or necessitate a lower dosage.

Tip 2: Do not mix with coffee, tea, or smoothies. Keep in mind that CBD is hydrophobic, which means it behaves chemically like oil and does not mix well with water. When you add CBD oil to a drink, its bioavailability decreases and you won’t feel its effects as strongly and quickly as when you consume it sublingually (under the thong). A workaround is to combine with fatty acids such as milk, coconut oil, butter, and so on:)

Tip 3: If you don’t like the taste of your CBD oil, mix it with a teaspoon of honey or eat a piece of chocolate before/after.

When should I take CBD?

The optimum time of day to consume CBD oil is the one that works best for you. Many individuals take it first thing in the morning to increase attention and relax. Others use CBD oil at night to relax, unwind, and sleep better. Some people take daily CBD supplements to keep their endocannabinoids levels high.

Here’s a simple summary of when to take CBD oil throughout the day, as well as what CBD can do in the morning and evening.

Boost Focus

CBD may help you assemble your thoughts and boost cognitive performance when you wake up with brain fog. Not as stimulating as coffee, but it does assist in maintaining a healthy nervous system balance, resulting in a relaxing effect. This improves focus throughout the day and contributes to a healthy circadian rhythm.

Relive stress and anxiety

Life can be unpredictable at times. CBD can help regulate anxiety and stress by modulating GABA receptors calming a hyperactive nervous system. CBD also works on serotonin receptors and maintains endocannabinoid levels, which helps with the stress response.

Soothe Muscles

Take CBD first thing in the morning if your body feels achy or tense from a late night or a hard workout. To reduce inflammation, we suggest using a topical treatment with CBD oil. Applying CBD lotion or ointment to the skin can also aid.

Relax after a long day

After a hard day at work or an important event, CBD can help you relax and get ready for the evening. High CBD doses at night help reduce breathing and soothe the mind, allowing people to sleep faster.

Better Sleep Cycle Management

Using CBD for sleep is one of the most popular uses for this herbal supplement. CBD oil modulates the activity of different stages of sleep through a complicated process. Acute REM stage problems are characterized by abrupt bodily movements, tremors, and vocalizations. CBD can also help us stay in a deep sleep longer, allowing for better repair.

Anxious and Running Thoughts in bed

The amount of stimuli and information we are exposed to throughout the day can deplete our nervous system’s performance. After a long day of processing data, the brain becomes overly wired. A sleepless night’s stream of thoughts doesn’t help either. Taking CBD oil at night can help you relax and fall asleep faster.

Ease PMS

Despite the fact that CBD has little direct effect on estrogen and progesterone, it provides a number of benefits that help alleviate symptoms such as pain, cramping, and mood.

How long before I notice a difference?

This is determined mainly by the type of CBD you use (i.e., oil, capsules, vapes, edibles, etc.). Vaping or applying CBD oil drops sublingually (under the tongue) ensures that the CBD enters your bloodstream quickly and that you begin to feel the effects within 5-10 minutes. Capsules and edibles take much longer to work (up to 90 minutes) and have lower bioavailability because they must pass through your digestive system (so you need to take much more to have the same effect). They are, however, ideal for a slow, steady, accumulative build up.

ProductBioavailabilityOnset timeDuration
Vapes34% - 46%10-15 min1-2 hours
CBD Oil 15% - 35%up to 30 minup to 4 hours
Capsules & Edibles13% - 19%up to 2 hoursup to 6 hours
Drinks (nano-emulsified)90%20-45 min2-3 hours
Suppositories 85% - 90%5-10 minup to 8 hours
Topicalsnot quantified 15-30 min1-2 hours
Once CBD enters your system, however it does so, it has an ‘elimination half-life’ (the time it takes to reach half the dosage in your body) of 18 to 32 hours. But you won’t feel it as strongly as you do when it first starts (what’s known as ‘active life’), even though those wonderful cannabinoids will still be working away in the background.

When it comes to CBD’s ability to help alleviate symptoms of anxiety, insomnia, pain, inflammation, and other health issues, it can take anywhere from 3 to 7 days to 2-4 weeks of consistent dosing to see results. That is determined by the severity of your condition, your body’s response and tolerance to CBD, the quality of the CBD product, and your individual biology.

If you haven’t noticed any changes after 7 days, increase the dose and continue for another week, monitoring your progress.

Can You Overdose on CBD?

So far, the World Health Organization considers CBD to be completely safe, with no risk of dependency or abuse, and promising for a wide range of medical applications.
The only clinical trial with negative side effects used extremely high doses of Epidiolex, a CBD prescription medication. This study looked at daily doses of 1,360 mg and found the following symptoms:

CBD’s Short-Term Side Effects, that can occur as soon as the CBD begins to work. They can last from a few minutes to several hours. When the CBD wears off, the following side effects usually follow:

  • Low blood pressure (blood pressure less than 110/80 mm Hg)
  • Mouth dryness (Xerostomia)
  • Fatigue
  • Discomfort in the intestines.
  • Lack of appetite
  • Vomiting and nausea
  • Rashes on the skin

CBD’s Long-Term Side Effects are the one that does not appear immediately. These side effects appear gradually over time as a result of consistent use. There have been very few long-term side effects associated with CBD, and many of these effects can be attributed to other aspects of CBD use, such as smoking, vaping, or combining CBD with pharmaceutical medications:

  • Weight fluctuations (loss or gain)
  • Anomalies in liver function tests (high AST or ALT)
  • Weakness or exhaustion

Well, if clinical trials have prescribed up to 1,360 mg per day, which is more than two bottles of our best seller CBD oil drops “Relax, take it easy” 500 mg or 60+ suggested servings a day, then you don’t need to worry about overdosing. However, we advise getting a professional medical verdict before trying any of our CBD products

Final toughts

It is nearly impossible to determine the best dosage and time of day to take CBD oil for each individual. However, you can use the above information to determine the best CBD form, timing, and dosage — and thus maximize the benefits of your supplementation. Experiment with various dosages and timings, and pay attention to what your body is telling you. Write down how you feel after each dose and keep a log or journal of the results. Just remember to always buy CBD oil from a reputable source that uses organically grown hemp and tests its products for CBD content and purity in a third-party laboratory.
While knowing your best CBD dosage is important for obtaining maximum effect, it is pertinent to note that there are some side effects that may arise from the use of CBD. Although these side effects are based on drug-drug interactions, users are expected to seek medical advice before trying any CBD product.
